I Am Going Home Tomorrow

I knew discharge was approaching but was lead to believe it would be at the end of this week or early next week. However at about 5:00 this afternoon one of the discharge team told me it would be tomorrow! Talking to her a couple of days ago I said a day's notice would be useful so a key holder could meet me and take delivery of a online supermarket shop or pick up something from a nearby Tesco Metro that is too far for me. One person could have met me on Thursday but not tomorrow as they will be 100 miles away. When I pointed this out she said "That's not the way it works" in what I felt was quite an arrogant manner. I thought "Does any thing work anymore in the NHS after many months in the acute hospital, failure to manage my diabetes properly in both hospitals and far less physio than I expected and needed". Hopefully I can make better progress in my home environment!

We really need a whoopee emoji. So pleased for you, I hope it goes well.

Good news, hopefully you will make better progress at home and being responsible for your own insulin. Hope it goes well tomorrow.

@MikeyBikey , were I closer, I’d offer to bring you shopping and ensure you felt safe and secure at home. It must feel somewhat daunting after all this time away.

Very best of luck tomorrow, but please don’t try to be too “normal” too quickly. You’ll need to build some resilience.

So pleased you are going home but really sorry that yet again they have not considered the practical aspects of your discharge, especially considering the length of time you have been in hospital. I really feel that there is nowhere near enough planning and consideration given to these situations. Sending you home with no support and no food in the house! It is just crazy!!
Delighted that you will regain your autonomy with regard to your diabetes management though as that will be one less frustration for you. Really hope it all goes smoothly. Sending more (((HUGS)))

Great to hear your finals getting home @MikeyBikey but like others disappointed the way you are being sent home without proper planning shopping etc.. really hope it all goes well

So pleased that you are well enough to go home @MikeyBikey but sorry that they have not listened to you over timing. I hope that you are able to get sorted and all goes smoothly today.

Well the day so far... I was woken at 05:05 for observations and to be given Lansoprazole (this needs to be taken an hour before breakfast and as the earliest one I have had here is 08:30 there was no point in waking me). The nurse reappeared at 06:00 with the remainder of my morning meds. I asked for a hot drink but was told it was not possible. A bit later and HCA asked if there was anything I needed. I said I wouldn't mind a coffee and the reply was "Coming up". These HCAs really earn their money. He also came to wish me luck before he finished his shift.

Glad you are well enough to go home but thoughtless you were not given 48 hours notice after so long in their care. Could Doctors strike have impacted? Despite the short notice I hope friends and family can rally.

Whoopie that's good news indeed take care
Xxxxxx

Glad to hear you are finally going home Mikey but echo everyone else's comments about the lack of notice after a very prolonged period in hospital. Do they just assume you have somebody available to help at home. The lack of care or consideration makes me so cross !
Hope your journey home goes well. Sending hugs xx

Good news and all the best

@MikeyBikey first off so pleased you are finally getting out of hospital. On a more important note, there is statutory guidance that applies when discharging a patient with a chronic illness and who will need support when placed back into the community. You might want to refer them to the following if applies in your case:
Statutory Guidance: discharge of duty of care

Great news Mike, as Ive said on my other posts I have a very low opinion of medicos in general and hospitals in particular so no surprise in the thoughtless contempt you have encountered.

Im sure you will feel 1000% better at home with your own autonomy back, even if the fridge is a bit bare
