Type 2
i am type 2 diabetic, yesterday afternoon i was told i had to go on insulin and a slimming injection does this now make me type 1

Hi bigbird, welcome to the forum 🙂 No, you are still Type2 - Type 1 and Type 2 have different causes. Type 2 is chiefly about insulin resistance (you produce your own insulin, but can't use it properly), and Type 1 is an autoimmune disease where the insulin producing cells of the pancreas are killed off by the body's immune system.

With Type 2, the ability to produce enough insulin to keep your blood sugars under control can fail over time, and if this happens then it needs to be injected.

How long have you been diagnosed?

Well put "Northy". Good luck with things "BigBird" & welcome to the forum 🙂

I hope that the new treatment works well for you 🙂 Have you got a blood glucose meter so that you can test and monitor your progress? If you drive then it is a requirement of the DVLA that you test before driving to ensure that you are safe to do so i.e. your blood glucose levels are not too low. Also, you should carry some fast acting sugar with you, like jelly babies or glucose sweets, in case you feel low - has this been fully explained to you?

Please let us know how you get on, and remember we are always here if you have any questions or concerns 🙂
