Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all, in February I diagnosed with diabetes type 2, my hba1c was 14% and they gave insulin 45 units a day and metafomin two times. I worked hard to manage it insanely in other words! After one month I re-tested and my hba1c was 9% which is better. My problem is that my blood sugar test is not getting better and I am having a problem sticking with healthy food and training, My daily blood test is not that bad but it is not getting better So I stopped bother myself. I really want advice on how to stay in a healthy way of managing my blood sugar without exaggeration that will make me bored. I have to get a 7% hba1c to get rid of the insulin.

Are you only testing once a day @Takwa ? (You mentioned a “daily blood test”) What insulin do you take? Do you have any weight to lose?

You’ve improved your HbA1C a lot, so that’s really good 🙂 It’s better to improve things gradually, so I think you’re doing well. Just keep on going. Take one day at a time.

Yes, I do it 2 hours after my lunch and my dinner. It is quite annoying that I have the same numbers even when I took a lot of care, last time improvements were noticed. I have a lot of weight to lose which is another problem to fit in a diet after being freely eating!! I am taking Mixture inslun 45 units a day with 3 meals.

Do you mean Mixtard insulin? Is it a 70/30 mix? And have you been told a certain number of carbs to have for each meal?

If you’re getting hungry, having extra non-carby veg and salad is a good way to bulk up meals and add some interest. Sadly, with losing weight you just have to plod on day after day repeating the good diet until you get to your target weight. It can be boring but as you begin to feel better, that should encourage you. You could even have a reward for completing so many days of your diet, if that helps motivate you.

Well done with your achievement so far but there is no need for your food to be boring. I assume you eat meat and fish so you can use lots of spices and herbs for flavour. Cheese and eggs are also good choices together with lots of veg especially if green and leafy. For alternatives to potatoes and rice people find cauliflower acceptable. Bread is more difficult so it is more a matter of limiting your portion.
I just wondered if you are in the UK.

Hi Takwa, welcome to the forum.

To begin with, it can be a bit boring but as you get comfortable with what you can eat you may feel a bit more confident about trying new things. Maybe it's worth doing some meal planning so you can research and choose some more exciting meals that support your goals.

It's also worth noting that sometimes, we may feel bored when we start a new way of eating because food was previously being used as something to 'entertain' us time wise or emotionally and not just as fuel to our bodies. Maybe finding something else stimulate your senses would be helpful.
