Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all I live on my own in Gloucester UK. I have also got fybromyalgia too. I am over weight / obese according to NHS. I am due at the end of September to start the Oviva nhs extreme diet.

Hi Kazglos48 and welcome to the forum.
I wish you well with your diet.
I found I lost 1/6 th of by body weight by reducing carbohydrates rather than counting calories or going hungry or living on shakes. I didn't even do any additional exercise, just my usual 30 minute walks.

All Type 2 diabetics are so because their bodies can't handle the amount of carbohydrates that they consume, so it makes sense to just reduce the amount consumed (both starches and sugars, both added and natural, both whole grains and tropical fruits etc.)

You could make a start now by reducing the amount of carbohydrates in your diet rather than waiting until the end of September as that will give you a good head start on losing weight and reducing your blood glucose levels. Even those few weeks will have an impact.
Some people have success with the 'extreme' diets but many people find that they are able to manage their diabetes by low carb regime which had the long term benefit of being a sustainable way of life.

I am getting on for 5 years from diagnosis with type two and am very cheerfully eating a diet low in carbs - no more than 40gm a day, to control my diabetes. I don't need medication, and my weight has been going down little by little - even during lockdown.
