Type 2
Hello.
I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Discovered quite by accident I had a routine blood test for something else and received a telephone call from my GP With the news that my blood sugars were slightly raised. As yet no medication required!
I am interested in eating healthily and appropriately. I would like to lose a little weight too.
I Won’t go on any more. I think I have rambled on enough!

Hello @Jante . Welcome to the forum.. I found out that way too, it does come as a shock doesn’t it.
You have come to a good place for info and cyber support from people who live with this condition, so please ask all the questions you you need to about diabetes, we will do our best to help.

As to healthy eating , some things that are considered to be healthy may not be good for us and others that are considered unhealthy may be good for us, we can help with what has worked for us, many here opt for LCHF low carbohydrates high fat, please don’t be put off by the high fat bit as it is really normal amounts of good fats , which helps replace the energy that carbs used to give us and helps keeps us feeling fuller longer.

Are you self testing to find out what carbohydrates you can and can’t tolerate.

Hi @Jante
Welcome to the club no one wants to be in, it’s all a bit daunting at first but with some diet & lifestyle changes, most people find they can bring their blood sugar levels down, although what works for one may not work for another as we are all different.
A useful intro to type 2 diabetes is Maggie Daveys Letter (link below) which is good reading for those who are newly diagnosed.

Hello Jante, welcome to the forum.
There are many of us here to try and help you.
It takes a while to adjust to the shock of diagnosis, but it can be a good motivator to work out a plan for helping yourself.
The link Martin gave you to Maggie's letter is a very good place to start, and help decide on what is the right solution for you.
Most plans will certainly help you loose weight. I have always focused on reducing the carbs to get blood sugar levels down, and not worried too much about the calories, but the nice side effect is that I have lost about 30lbs over a long period ( Still a few more to go though!)
Don't forget that exercise is also important. Whatever level you are already at with that, try and increase it by doing some more, but make sure it is something that you enjoy.
Good luck and please ask us if there is any particular things that you aren't sure about. We would love to hear how you get on.

Hello @Jante and welcome to the forum. 🙂 There's loads of books you can get from the library, I'm reading one that's not long out "Can I Eat That?" It's not bad up to now...

Hello Jante and welcome. I agree with what the others have said. I would just add that it’s a good idea to have a look around the site which will bring questions up for you then just ask them, nothing is too big or small, even if you think they are ‘silly’ questions just go ahead and ask as we have all been where you are now. We are more than happy to help out and we are all on the same road. Good luck and look forward to seeing your posts.
