Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi guys, I am firstly going to apologise for all the up and coming questions, I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and although I have read loads in the last couple of days but it doesn’t give me all the answers

Hi and welcome.

Please don't worry about asking questions.... Fire away with them! it is what the forum is here for and often we all learn from the question or the corresponding answers, so in many respects asking questions is the heart of how the forum works and thrives.

Can I ask a few of my own....

Can you tell us a bit about how you came to be diagnosed? ie. Was it a routine blood test which picked it up or were you suffering some symptoms and if so what or perhaps some other means?

Do you know the result of the HbA1c diagnostic test which gave you your diabetes diagnosis. It is usually a number in excess of 47 but can be a lot higher and possibly into 3 figures if your diabetes is very serious. That is not to say it can't be sorted out if it is, but generally it needs a more concerted approach once you get into the orange or red zone.
Have your medical professionals prescribed you any medication for your diabetes or given you any advice about diet and lifestyle changes?
Do you have much/any weight to lose? .... Always a bit of a delicate question I know so please don't feel you are obliged to answer it.... or any other questions of course, but the more info you can give us, the better we can understand your specific situation and that can make quite a difference as diabetes is often quite individual in how it exhibits and responds in different people and of course we all have variations in our enjoyment of different foods and how our bodies break food down.

Hope to hear more from you soon but feel free to ask your questions here or on other posts if you wish. I learned almost all of what I know from the good people here so I am sure you will find it helpful and also reassuring to be around other people who have been in the same situation and know what it is like..

Hi Rebrascora,

Thank you for replying, I have had 3 blood tests, HbA1c, one a month ago in the last 2 in the last 10 days, my score went from 47 to 55 and I will be collecting my tablets on Monday (Meta something) I am also on tablets for high BP, I was also diagnosed with eptopic heart beat, which was brought on with stress, plus I have other illnesses and conditions

I will definitely try the chewing gum (sugar free) and see if that helps but the dry mouth will also leave me feeling really thirsty and like you said sowing a large glass doesn’t solve the issue for long

Hello @Bobby’s Nanny and welcome to the forum.
I just thought that I should warn you that if you decide to use a low carb diet to control the type 2, then you might find that the high blood pressure subsides and the tablets can then be dangerous if you go on taking them.
I have been on a low carb list for quite some time and have heard of people having nasty falls on stairs in particular - one was very serious indeed.
If you start to feel dizzy when getting up from a chair or climbing stairs, do get advice from your GP.
The dry mouth should subside as your blood glucose is brought under control.

Welcome to the forum @Bobby’s Nanny

Glad you have found us! Do keep your questions coming... we have literally centuries of lived diabetes experience on the forum, and nothing will be considered too obvious or 'silly'.

It can be so helpful to have the 'hive mind' of the forum to consult, and to be able to offload with any frustrations, hilarities, worries and annoyances with people who instinctively 'get it' and are facing the same challenges very day. 🙂
