Hi I’ve been type 2 diabetic for 16 years now I have severe peripheral neuropathy and can hardly walk my own fault never managed it well I’m now on insulin and gliclazide I have down to some normality but it’s too late to help my condition
@Birt hi and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your foot issues. That is one of my major concerns as running is a key part of my exercise regime and the loss off feeling or other problems with my feet would worry my badly.
Yeah it’s not good it’s hit me hard I’ve always been active but now can only walk a few feet I is need a mobility scooter I’m only 60 my life has no quality anymore I wouldn’t wish this on anyone
@Birt, that sounds awful. I had my first annual review recently and they have said that there is no issues with my feet, but I think that fear is one of the drivers that has caused me to make major changes to my diet as well as to try and exercise more.
The DNS did prescribe Metformin but I am really reluctant to use medication but I did agree to try a table a day which is what I currently do. However, I have followup meeting next week and as my HbA1C is down to 47 I am hoping I can come off it.
For what its worth, I think if you can get around on a mobility scooter then go for it, it gives you some freedom and lets you get out and about. The other thing to consider, particularly if you need exercise might be chair Yoga (yes it is a thing). That might help you build up some fitness and also stability.

Goodness, so sorry to hear how dramatically your diabetes has affected you @Birt
Good to ear you have a scooter though. Several folks on the forum find them invaluable for getting about.
Are you on meds to ease the discomfort from your nerve pain? Does the insulin help to keep your levels in range? I think this can help reduce the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy.
Yes insulin has got my diabetes under some control but will not reverse the damage I have caused I don’t take tablets for nerve pain too many side effects
