I know if I we’re perfect (which I know is impossible) I would have no hypers or hypos.
So in diong my best I have more hypos than hypers. The hypos are very short lived as I always pick them, and usually in the upper 3s. Hypers are shorter lived now with the Libre info.

I was wondering which cause me more damage
- mild hypos very brief
- mild hypers along with small spikes for a bit longer as not picked up so soon
or the suggestion from my OH (and I can almost hear TW saying this as well)
Is there more damage done by
- worrying about whether it is hypos or hypers that do more damage.

I'd say it depends on the frequency and severity of either - frequent bad lows e.g. below 3.0 mmol/l can lead to loss of symptoms and it's also been suggested possible cognitive impairment. If they are upper 3s I wouldn't worry, as non-diabetics get those as well, and probably quite frequently - the main difference for us is that there is the possibility of circulating insulin dropping them much further, whereas a functioning pancreas would switch off insulin at around 3.3 mmol/l, hence we need to be more cautious.

Short-lived spikes can be harmful if severe and frequent e.g. rapid spiking into double figures and dropping quickly back down, as these are thought to place more stress on the small blood vessels in the eyes and kidneys. Sustained highs over a long period can lead to the many complications we are all aware of.

So, for me, I can cope happily with levels from 3.5 to 9.5, as long as those extremes are few and far between 🙂

Hypers are more damaging for me and have caused permanent damage as have been running in the teens, and with little or no help from the professionals as they don't believe running in the teens is a problem.

I won't bother answering, you already know! LOL

If whatever is neither 'violent' nor, even when not violent, 'sustained' - that means you are simply 'normal' in my book!

My OH would be surprised to hear that I have become normal!!!
Perhaps there are benefits to having Diabetes after all.

Definitely SB - the rest of them are Muggles !
