I've not had any hypo awareness for about the last 10 years not so much as a tremble or shake, I can't tell if I'm 1.7 or 21.7. I suppose that makes me completely unaware of where my blood sugar is by how I feel. I presume my brain has given up trying to detect either situation over the years. Fortunately I'm able to use glucose sensors to alert me and try to keep me conscious.

I was just wondering if the same has happened to others who have lost or have diminished awareness. Does it automatically mean if you can't tell hypos you also can't tell hypers?

Hi Flower, I know that we have had members here in the past who have had similar problems detecting hypos. I can go down sometimes to the low 2s before I realise something is 'not quite right', but generally I do know when my levels are higher because I have different symptoms - usually tiredness and nausea if I stray into double figures.

What insulin are you using? I know that some people have found they became hypo unaware when moving from animal to human/synthetic insulin.

I think the problem must run deep if your body cant tell either high or low.

I would assume that being hypo unaware means your body has became used to being on the lower end of the BG targets, if not lower.......and the same with hyper rec ignition, being high all the time would allow your body to become accustomed to those levels.....

So which one is it for you.....?

It sounds as if it neither.......:(.....

10 years is along time, my sympathies.....
