If you are used to high levels, then when they come down to lower levels your body sometimes sees them as a hypo, though you are not hypo. Sometimes referred to as false hypos.

The body is amazing at adapting. And over time it can get used to elevated and damaging blood glucose levels so much that it’s internal ‘glucose thermostat’ sees those as normal. As @grovesy says, this can then trigger the warning signs and symptoms you might experience at low BG (extreme hunger, dizziness, spaced out, tiredness) when your BG begins to approach the normal range.

It is helpful to bring your average BG down fairly gently over a period of time so that the body has time to adapt and adjust.

Good luck and keep asking questions!
