A brave pal swam the length of England?s largest natural lake to help her best friend who is battling crippling diabetes.
Helen Tonge completed the 10.5 miles of Windermere to raise ?1,300 for Diabetes UK.
She was spurred to take on the challenge on behalf of her best friend, Dorne Hendry, who has lived with the condition almost all her life.
Dorne is seriously ill with the condition and now needs a pancreatic transplant. She said: "It?s just amazing what Helen has done. People don?t realise what a serious condition diabetes is and Helen has been with me every step of the way. I couldn?t wish for a better friend." Dorne, a professional musician who lives with her partner, Loola, in Mottram, was diagnosed with type one diabetes aged 11.
