I am writing this for my husband who at the moment has been rushed into hospital and been on a insulin drip for 3 days and is now in the renal unit, i have no idea what to expect when he comes home as they say he hasnt got out of bed for 3 days and now cant wash or dress himself, we had no idea he was diabetic till the gp's started to panic three days ago it seems his numbers where above and beyond what they should have been.

That's not good, do you have any family or friends that can offer you any kind of support. Remember, your well being is going to be very important for your husband well being, so do not neglect to take care of yourself.

Without more details, it sounds like it could be Diabetic Nephropathy, there is also a Wikipedia page here.

Also, the main Diabetes UK domain has a contact page with options for telephone, email or live chat with the care team.

Check the page, but the main details are:
Diabetes UK Helpline:
(Mon-Fri 9-6) 0345 123 2399
or email helpline@diabetes.org.uk

Welcome to the forums, though I wish it was under better circumstances

Edit: Do not be embarrassed to take help where you can find it. There are a number of charities specialising in supporting those caring for people who are severely ill, or recovering from severe illness. I myself, as a result of my diabetes, after a lifetime of living off-grid and completely free of the bureaucratic machine, am being helped to claim my state-pension by StreetWork. Believe me, I would be lost without them and would have just given up on the idea of claiming my pension. They really can help

I'm sorry to here that. It must have come as a shock for you both but you really need to speak to the consultant in charge of your husband and find out what treatment plan they have.
Depending on what his diagnosis is and what has caused the sudden onset of out of control blood glucose the ongoing treatment is going to vary.
Please do get back on here when you know a bit more and I'm sure you will receive lots of help and answers to your questions.

Oh my goodness @button

You must be beside yourself with worry :(

Thank goodness he is in hospital and being well looked after. Fingers crossed you get some encouraging updates soon. Hope the insulin treatment brings his levels back into range, and the renal unit can stabilise things for him.

Do let us know when you hear more.

hi, hosptal told a social worker that he is very confused, wetting himself and is refusing to inject himself, but he can hardly see, his eyesight is very bad, they said it will be at least two weeks until they can even think ( sorry cant think of the word) let him out, and even then he may have to go into a community hospital for extra help. thats as far as I know up to today

So sorry to hear this @button. I hope things improve asap.

Hi I have now been told he has a stomach aneurysm and because he has mild heart failure due to having a mild stroke two years ago they wont operate on him as he wont survive, all this through being diabetic and we didn't know, i am just sitting here and cant believe what i am hearing

My husband also has what they abbreviate to an AAA - abdominal aortic aneurism. His is being monitored on an ongoing basis, which is by having an ultrasound scan on it every 3 months, to check if it has got any bigger. These things are always a nasty shock - but once they know about it, they absolutely do keep a close eye on you.
