Just got back from the clinic with some great results! HBA1c was 5.4 (previously 6.7), cholesterol 2.4 (previously 3.7), BP 127/91, BMI 19.5 (up from 18.5), and kidneys fine and functioning! Hurrah!:D

Consultant was one of those who doesn't really listen to you, so I ended up answering most of my own questions regarding the problems with my basal insulin and how to solve them - he just basically said to try whatever I though might work - didn't need him to tell me that! I did get a single-increment autopen off the nurse though, so I'll be able to fine-tune things a bit better.

Glad to find that all my efforts have not been in vain over the past six months and that the relative freedom I've allowed myself with my diet hasn't had an adverse effect - I'm generally ravenous and could eat a horse between two bread vans most meals🙂

congratulation northerner!!!! good results!!!

i used to have a consultant like that till i move to a new center for diabetes and now the consultant i am under is really good and he seems to want to keep me upto date with all the latest stuff going on which my last one didnt (shows that he didnt when i was still on the same insulin regimes and etc after nearly 6 years). new consultant wants me to go on a pump to try and control the swings i get in levels better.

well again congratulations. really happy for you 🙂

Congratulations on brilliant results. Hope you get a new consultant that listens soon...

Cheers Mike, much appreciated! The nurses at the clinic are much better than the doctors - I think this guy looked at my figures, decided I was OK and tried to rush through the appointment as they were behind.

I hope the pump works out for you. I know I'm (currently!) lucky in that I haven't had to try too hard to keep good control, and appreciate it must be very frustrating when you're doing all the right things and it just won't go right!

Thanks Caroline - in two visits I've had two different ones, neither of which was the one I was supposed to be seeing!

Thats excellent Northerner! And i thought my hb1ac was good at 6.7...LOL

Congratulations Northerner - its fantastic news and great to hear! I had mine yesterday too and all my numbers were down - HbA1C 6.1 (down from 6.7) cholesterol 5.2, BG 8.2 (I think - all these numbers have got a bit mixed up in my head!) liver and kidney function fine, BP coming down (135/88) and the best news of all - lost a stone so can continue with diet and exercise control. I'm still feeling a buzz.......

That's great Corrine! In many ways it's a lot easier for me because I can control the sugars with insulin. I really admire people who have the extra difficulty of weight control which is notoriously difficult, and the diet and exercise must be so difficult to predict how things will turn out. Well done on losing that stone and top notch numbers!🙂

Thanks Northerner - about another 3 stone to come off so will be sticking with it for a while. And it obviously works - which is more that I can say for any other diet I have been on!

Well done Corrine and Northerner........it's great to hear some good news for a change !

All best wishes,

Congratualtions!!

Thats a great A1c result, equals my lowest A1c, but for me it was slightly too low- too many hypos. if you aren't havign too many then thats fantastic! Was your nurse pleased? I found that any 5.x seem to worry alot of DSN's.

Thanks - I've had a few hypos along the way, my software tells me that about 6% of my readings are hypo, so not too bad. My problem with getting such good results will be not being disappointed if it slips a bit next time. I'm like that with my running - always hoping to improve on my previous time, however good it was!

The consultant said it was excellent, but then appeared to abdicate all responsibility for listening and advising on my outstanding concerns. I'm sure if it had been one of the nurses I'd have got a better hearing as they are great🙂

They're great results 🙂 You should be proud! And it's lovely to hear some good news too! I've got my first clinic at a new hospital tomorrow and HbA1c results to pick up. Dead nervous! Won't be anywhere near yours though, hehe!
