Hi everyone
I was diagnosed with Type 2 over Christmas. I'm good with my meds, I'm doing daily exercise and eating healthier. The problem is, I'm continually hungry. Is this a newbie early stage or should I talk to my GP? Thank you

Of you are feeling hungry it's a healthy sign.
Or at least it was for me.
I cut out the junk, are a healthy lower calorie diet, and lost 5 stone.
Being hungry was part of that until I got used to eating less, which doesn't take long.

Thank you Travellor. You have done brilliantly. And thank you for the advice

If you are cutting back on carbs you will need to eat more 'good' fats such as almonds, avocados, full fat greek yoghurt, etc. to keep you feeling fuller for longer.
Thank you Jill. It's a complete mindset change. Advocados and Greek yoghurt are anathema to my "diet". But your suggestions are the way forward. I don't think I realised the enormity of the changes. Thanks again

What sort of foods are you now having?
Increasing protein and healthy fats will help to stem the hunger, high carb foods will tend to make you feel more hungry.
Try having a refreshing drink and try something to distract you.

At the moment it's more what I'm leaving out, red meat, potatoes, white bread, rice, desserts. But I have a meeting next week with my GP diabetes nurse . We are going to develop a "plan". My downfall was sugary drinks, I'm definitely not going down that road again. Thank you for the advice

No reason to not have red meat unless that is personal choice. Just substitute sugar free drinks and cut out the fruit juices.

100g steak/chicken breast/or salmon fillet and a salad or green veg hot, are my staple dinners.

Sorry to hear about your persistent hunger @WobblyBob

Hopefully this will pass as you begin to settle into your new way of eating.

Do you know which particular flavour of MODY you have? There’s a brief write-up here:

And the different sorts have slightly different treatment and self-management options.

You are a pretty select bunch you MODY lot, but we do have a few other members including @Stitch147 and @Lindarose who may have some strategies and experiences to share 🙂
