Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all - have been on pills for 6 years but the past year things were going downhill bg was 22 in the morning and by the time bedtime came it was nearly 30, though I didn't know this as type 2 cannot have bg testing kit had to wait for my 6 month appointment with dn. I was feeling very tired could sleep away the day, didn't feel like eating as it made me fall asleep afterwards. Started Humulin I about three weeks ago 10units increasing by 4 every 4 days I am now up to 30units but still have a way to go, my morning bg is still high 14 need to get to 10 and the decrease to 2 units every 4 days until I reach 7 - 7.5. I am also taking Tabolimide 4 times a day too. But I must admit I am starting to feel much better, sleeping only 7hrs and getting up earlier (retired), walking the dogs a mile a day hopefully soon I can do more. I never thought that insulin would make such a difference, I had never felt this good all the time I was on the pills. Maybe if I had been able to test myself I would have known sooner than waiting for that day when it was too high.

Hi Vam, welcome to the forum 🙂 I'm very sorry to hear that you have been experiencing such problems, it is such a shame that you weren't given the means to self test so you could have sought help sooner :( It's not true that Type 2 can't have testing kits, they just need to be taught how to interpret the results so that they can learn how to manage their diabetes, so I would suspect that the cost of the strips and/or your doctor's lack of interest in educating you is the main reason you weren't given a meter.

The good news is that your levels are now improving and you can't alter the past so need to look to the future 🙂 It's great to hear of your improvements, and that you are already feeling much better, I hope this continues and you can start living a life where diabetes only plays a minor role!

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have - nothing is considered 'silly', and we have lots of people of all ages and experience who will do their best to help and support you. I look forward to hearing more form you 🙂

Thanks for welcoming me to the group. Yes, I think the practice would find it expensive and felt every 6 months was the best for them.

But, I am now getting the help I need and will work hard on watching my diet etc.

Hi Vam, I was type 2 for six weeks or so. I was given BM test strips, easy to use and reliable. Same as you felt terrible so rang nurse and she put me on insulin. When I had my first injection I felt instantly better within 15 mins.
