Do you inject

1. Before a meal (i know this should be done 15 mins before or immediately before)?
2. At what BS level would you inject before...?
or
3. After a meal?

You should always inject before a meal. It gives the insulin time to start entering the bloodstream before the food surges through.

Ideal timing is down to the individual but 10-20 minutes can be sufficient.

If you're hypo before the meal, you should treat the hypo, then inect for the meal once you're up to normal. If this is impractical then you can get away with injecting after or part way through.

Some people advise a small 'up front' dose if you're not sure what you're eating, then follow up with the remainder once you know how much food has been eaten.🙂

In most cases before the me..

There are a couple of reason to when this would change..

If my BG was borderline then I would eat before injecting..

Then there's what type of meal I'm going to eat, high fat and/or high protien can be slow to adsorb so if I had an omellet then I would delay my injection (even no carbs or very minium carb content I still have to have insulin) so that I matched the insulin profile to the profile of digestion..

The time given to inject before is the based on the Clinical Profile of humalog, test in the lab... The actual profile for the individual may differ from this so the timing of the injection may alter a bit to match personal profile needs..
