Hi all, hope you are all well and enjoying some sunshine! I've been looking into my food intake throughout the day and keeping below 130g of carbs. I'm slowly getting the hang of it. I work 10/12 hour shifts and will eat at work where there is no prep time so everything is made the night before. Normally it would be a sandwich or pasta etc but with my diagnosis of pre diabetes that isn't such good idea so long story short I have been looking into meal replacement like Huel etc. Anyone had experience of this type of food?

Unless your sandwich is absolutely massive it will still fit into a daily intake of 130g carb. Two slices of bread can be between 20-30g carb, that’s plenty left for other meals.

Not a giant sandwich no lol but combined with cereal could push it right up. I shall do some more research

Cereal is about 30-40g per serving, but varies wildly depending what you have, so that plus a small sandwich and you’re on 50-70g ish, still loads of carbs left for dinner.

If you want a sandwich or pasta at lunch but are worried about your days carbs then maybe you could cut some carbs at breakfast to keep your lunchtime sandwich? Breakfast is when people can handle carbs worst usually.

Some members with T2 have found the Newcastle Diet / Soup and Shake approach helpful, but from reading their posts, not all shakes / meal replacements are equal. Some seem to have quite high levels of simple sugars.

Do you have a glucose meter? That might be a way to check to see whether different meal replacement shakes suit you OK and keep your levels in range (ideally seeing a glucose rise of only 2-3mmol/L between a premeal reading and a second taken 2hrs later).

Oviva was one brand that members here used I think, along with sone supermarket own-brand versions. I think the company Exante that was once a soup/shake brand have gone under.

I’ve not heard anyone choosing Huel.
