Hi guys
How do I put some weight back on without pushing my numbers up
I am a scaffolder . So it’s a pretty physical job
And I go kick boxing twice a week . This keeps my numbers down 6/7/8/9 sometimes 5
But the food is the problem as you know
My staple diet was just chicken , broccoli , avocado . Then a normal ish meal at tea time
I have spoken to my local gp. Who has advised pasta as well
Well not much has happened on the weight front
Any ideas
Regards mark

Pasta is certainly likely to push up your glucose levels. You could try increasing your protein and fat by having a full fat yoghurt and cheese, eggs, bacon or cooked meats and nuts.
There are some lower carb pastas made from edamame bean or black bean and used with a creamy based sauce is some thing you could try.
As your job is very physical you need to be getting your energy from somewhere and if you are reducing the carbs then protein and fat is where it need to come from.
Some of the nut based protein bars are not bad carb wise like Nature Valley chocolate and peanut protein bars or equivalent.

I'm going to follow this and I apologise for not being able to help, but I'm interested in the replies as I'm in exactly the same place! Frustrating ain't the word!! It seems you either suffer hyperglycaemia or lose tons of weight.

You should be able to stabilise your weigh by having more fat and protein as that should not increase you blood glucose. So cheese, eggs, cream and meats and fish and nuts should all be good options.
Just make sure that you are correctly diagnosed as weight loss can be a pointer to Type 1 or LADA.

Cheers. I've tried more fat and protein, although I don't eat meat, I eat fish, but tbh it seems that however much I eat I can't put an ounce on!
I'm with you on the LADA thing, done a bit of research on this and I think I'm gonna have a chat with my consultant and GP about it again.

All the focus is usually for losing weight so snacking is discouraged but you could have some extra snacks to increase your intake of the proteins and fats. You could try making your own low carb smoothies. Grated cheese on your veg ?
Fish like salmon or mackerel or tuna. Although Tuna is no longer thought to be an oily fish.

Thank you, and you're right everything is directed to losing weight, yeah tried most of that, doesn't seem to make any difference, eat salmon mackerel add olive oil to things etc,
My concerns are lower carb diets seem to help lose weight and keep blood sugar lower, so any lower carb diet is never going to increase weight? I may be wrong, but it seems we need carbs to increase weight?
Thank you for your reply.
