How to manage a steroid injection

I am due to have steroid injections in my hand, I searched the forum and read other posts but they were all from pump users about putting a temporary basal rate on.

How do I manage this on injections? I’m struggling for quantities of apidra as it is since my cartridges have been out of stock for a couple of months now but I have loads of Lantus. Would I take extra Lantus on the day of it rather than correct all day and night?

Last November I had steroid injections to both knees on the same day and I’ve previously had hand injections over a period of 3 years, I found the injections had very little impact on my bg, perhaps I was just lucky but I hope your experience is similar.

I too have had steroid injections in my knee and in my wrist. They had no effect at all on my BG. Personally I wouldn’t adjust anything before the event.

I had steroid injections in my hands. They lifted my Bg enormously and I found that I needed to increase both basal and bolus. I have had these when on MDI and on a pump. It was just easier to manage on a pump.

The only thing I can suggest @Lucyr is monitor and see what happens and increase both basal and bolus as necessary.

I’ve only ever had injected steroids just before they induced my pregnancy, no idea what they did with my insulin then on the sliding scale, sorry no useful experience.

I’ve had tablet versions a few years ago but also I wasn’t well so I’m not sure what was the cause of higher levels could have been anything.

As others have said I don’t think I would take any action in advance, the usual see how it goes and adapt approach.

Hope it goes well.
