Hi guys - what is the best form of exercise to 'keep fit'; I don't need to lose weight but would like to tone up and keep-fit...

I am enrolled on a Yoga course on Wednesday for emotional wellbeing but need to do something else especially now the cold and damp weather is upon us....

Thank you.....🙂

Well, you can probably guess what I would say - running! 🙂 Free and simple, just get out of the door. If that doesn't appeal then I think you need to find an aerobic sport you enjoy, such as swimming perhaps, or cycling, to go alongside some muscle-toning/balance exercises which the Yoga should supply - or something like Tai Chi or Pilates. 🙂

how about swimming great for toning the body up and for me a great dessresser as well

To misquote someone or other - "there's no such thing as bad weather, juts the wrong kit".

As long as you have something waterproof / windproof / enough insulation, you're fine to go outdoors to walk / run / cycle / whatever, with some lighting and / or reflective kit as appropriate 🙂

I consider that exercise can be a personal issue what suits one, does not suit another. Having had Achilles tendon problems in the past running is out for me.

However I love swimming, I go twice a week all year round, each session about 30 mins, fairly non stop. I also walk, when we left London for the glories of the south coast, I gave up driving, so we tend to walk a lot, once a week a more strenuous walk is called for, about 4/5 miles, it does help living a mile from the South Downs national park.

To keep me in shape for the walking & swimming I exercise with hand weights and a swiss ball before breakfast every morning.

As I said exercise is a personal thing, whatever floats your boat.

So long as you exercise on a regular basis, do what you can, even a small amount of exercise is better than none😎

I enjoy dancing as it's good for toning and gets the heart going - joined adults beginners class at the beginning of the year and never looked back, love it. Doesn't feel like a chore keeping fit. You need to find something you like so you will stick at it 🙂
