If my blood glucose is under 8mmol at bedtime I need to have a small snack.
Teatime is anything from 6pm to 8pm ish.
Bedtime is anything from 10pm, 11pm, 12pm
what is the best way of finding out what my bedtime blood glucose will be shortly after having my tea?

So just by testing at bedtime ie 10pm, 11pm........it's so annoying particularly if you've not had tea until 8pm

Your bedtime blood sugar is simply your blood sugar at the time you go to bed. So you can only find it out when you test before going to bed. You can’t know it in advance.

Thanks for all the replies. Sadly I don't have a crystal ball lol. How many hours would you give it after I've had my tea to do my bedtime test to see if I need a bedtime snack?

Gill this is the 3rd time you've asked the question, people just tend to test when they go to bed but most of us will make sure 9 times out of 10 we eat at least 4 hours before bed to make sure there is no active insulin that could have unpredictable results, we all have different ways of doing things, some are confident enough that they don't need a top up snack, others have something, you really have to try and get this one by yourself as it is so personal and none of us have the same reaction to things

The easiest thing is to eat earlier @mum2westiesGill It removes a lot of worry (because you know your blood sugar is settled before bed) and usually works out best for your blood sugar results. Obviously when you eat out it might be slightly later, but even then I try to eat early by restaurant standards.

By ‘eat earlier’ I mean start your meal by 6/6.30pm roughly.

@Kaylz I didn't realise you were counting how many times I've asked this question!! Maybe I should ask a 4th 5th 6th time!! You can relax now because I know exactly what to do - make sure I wait 4 hours from teatime test before I do my bedtime test - maybe set an alarm for 4 hours after tea

There is no need to be so defensive, when you see something more than once it sticks in my head, it can be part of my OCD

Please accept my apologies for being defensive - do you agree with let's shake hands and move on? The forum is here to help each other with each others diabetes and not to give other people a reason to be defensive - if we can't say anything nice we don't say anything at all.

So after all this last nights tea was late again at 20 past 8 but hey ho there we go not to worry and what did silly me not do last night......I didn't or couldn't quite make it the 4 hours after my teatime bolus / tea I made it to 3 hours and 20 minutes then turned my alarm off, did my bedtime test and yes because my BGL was below 8mmol had a bedtime snack.
