I was diagnosed with diabetes at end of June, reading 69, tested at my request. 64 second test end of July. DN unhelpful and is now off sick. Since mid September I have not had a day when I've felt well [ I haven't felt ill] I've had diarrhea which stopped [ hopefully] a week ago; a cold/cough lasting 7 weeks; first sinusitis attack;oral steroids and a cataract op with a flare up of uveitis, where due to see a consultant in January.
I have taken pills for high blood pressure for 15 years and my readings were OK. I was told steroids likely to elevate it and it was high after the op on 31 October, when taken 4 days later in opthalmology department. The course finished that week. It was a 14 day course.
At end of November I had an appointment at request of consultant with a nurse, to monitor blood pressure and BG having completed the steroids.Nurse was stressed, refused to do BG and was stressed trying to get decent blood pressure readings. Tried 5 times. Ignored my request to look at my septic finger and finished by telling me if I got chest pains to phone someone [ obvious advice but delivered in a way to cause stress given it was Friday]
I went to a "walk in " nhs centre next day in a nearby city and BP reading was 198 over 103. I was sent to hospital for xrays and noone expressed concern about BP, but I asked to be tested before I left. It was high 150 but normally so. I should have insisted they checked more carefully or I contact my GP.
One week of antibiotics sorted the bone infection in my finger.
I attended my annual diabetes review last Tuesday, same nurse as blood pressure check. Still a little abrupt but very smiley. My blood pressure was still high, but this time I got to see the duty Doctor, who has put me back on the original diuretic. I've been told to monitor my blood pressure and it has definitely reduced. I am due another blood test next week to check kidneys. I assume I will be kept on the extra diuretic. My best friend saw me on Saturday and says I'm usually laid back, she's never seen me stressed!
I've been brought up not to bother Doctors ie only go if really ill, not to ignore. I've never had or been offered as an adult a medical. I thought removing the diuretic when metformin and SGLT2 had similar effect was sensible. I cannot now decide whether complaining that the change of medication wasn't reviewed is sensible or will cause me more stress. I should have monitored my own blood pressure then I might have realised the problem. The HCP, who made the decision, will see me on 7th to discuss results of tests on diabetic review and I assume the blood test on 24th. Do I ask him why blood pressure medication change wasnt monitored or just accept there may have been short term damage to my health but it's been sorted.
I will download the NHS app before I see him.
