The Government’s “common sense” minister (ahem!) has announced a ban on jobs dedicated to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the Civil Service.

Esther McVey claimed public money was being wasted “on woke hobby horses” in an article in The Sunday Telegraph.

The Cabinet Office minister said that in future there would be no more devoted EDI jobs in Whitehall outside human resources, and no more staff working solely on EDI work.

Yahoo News article re-publishes the Telegraph article hidden fully behind subscription paywall, and this is significant move which will effect all minority groups including disabled people, so on the one hand pull your socks up and get out there working full-time "lazy disabled people languishing on disability benefits" ableist rhetoric, and on the other as role model employer, it's OK for our government to remove all the Equality Diversity Inclusion roles which would make the workplace fully accessible to minority groups because all discrimination and ignorance and bigotry and inaccessible obstacles have been disappeared and removed by magic wand overnight *poof*...

Really hoping The Good Law Project or Pro Bono Law Firm or similar sues our government for breaching their own Equality Diversity Inclusion legislation, not that the weak toothless Disability Discrimination Act can be enforced in the Courts and Disability Hate Crime is NOT criminal offence on it's own, unlike Racist Or Religion based Hate Crime, what total mess, and the desperate dying breath of an undead zombie government continues in the death throes of yet more punching down and scapegoating of minority groups, truly pathetic and immoral...

There seems to be quite a bit in some sections of the media recently and in ‘official announcements’ which seem designed to appeal to demographics of particular political persuasions? Pre-general-election season?

Esther McVey and her gov bod cronies don't seem to realise they have platform where their words and statements are broadcast and amplified and influence people all over the country, so to clarify as it bares repeating again, none of the government legislation concerning Equality Diversity or Inclusion, or Human Rights, or Disability Rights, has been updated or removed or edited by this government (that requires effort and testing hateful ideologies in the Houses of Parliament, nope, far too risky!), and clearly "common sense" is just euphemism for punching down or "levelling up" on minority groups who don't have such public platform and are not listened to in the mainstream media, so nothing has changed, it's just more hot air fuelling hostile toxic environment which definitely leads to more hate speech and hate crimes and disabled people being threatened on the streets, such as my recent experience of being threatened with violence assault being stabbed and degraded with hateful comments like "give us your money you selfish greedy fat tw*t, f*cking fat b*stard" on the street near my home...

Words have consequences, think before you speak, it's just plain "common sense" yuck, ugh! :(

Esther McVey's "Common Sense" Credentials, Oh Lordy, She's Hot Mess!

Esther McVey claims expenses to rent flat while husband lets out nearby home

‘Minister for common sense’ who has criticised Whitehall waste is said to have received £39,000 in two years

Oh Please - Tell me more about "plain-speaking common sense" I'm all ears! Dumpster fire full of hot garbage could do better job! *Snap*

Frankly, the NHS and much of the public sector is bloated at management levels, with these diversity posts just adding to the bulk.

There is no doubt in my mind we have to be extremely mindful to ensure our working population reflects our actual population, but this sort of activity just leads to ridiculous report writing and sometimes positive discrimination at interview stages.

I saw a senior cyber security manager within government advertised at the weekend. The salary for this important job was only 70% of what the council where I used to live were paying their diversity manager five years ago!

"The shadow Cabinet Office minister, Pat McFadden, said: “With over seven million people on NHS waiting lists and homeowners still paying the price for the Tories crashing the economy, no amount of blaming civil servants for the Tories’ lack of delivery will wash. They should focus on the day job, rather than looking for other people to blame.”

Personally I recall seeing civil service staff recruitment stalls at LGBTQIA+ Pride events over many years and decades, and just like recruitment drives by police forces, surely this is necessary community engagement? Again, no changes of any kind have been made to any Equality Diversity Inclusion legislation by this current government, so there still remains many legal duties and legal obligations under the Equality Act and Human Rights Act which makes this move easier for discrimination cases against the civil service in future at great cost to taxpayers!

Another valid comparison is HS2 - the taxpaying general public don't even know the full amount of taxpayer's money wasted on pointless shuttle service from London to Birmingham, is it £70 billion pounds, or with inflation £100 billion pounds, we will find out maybe thirty years in the future when all those responsible are dead, real red herring argument to state that it's "too expensive" to comply with EDI legislation which benefits everyone in the long-term IMHO.
