Researchers are beginning to uncover why sleep affects blood sugar and which underlying mechanisms are at play. So far, they’ve learned that the following physiological factors play a role in the relationship between sleep and blood sugar:

Before I was diagnosed, I spent six months not sleeping due to pains, and according to people at the office I looked like a ghost. I often wonder if that made it worse, as I suspect the pains were diabetes related and the fact I wasn't sleeping made it even worse.

Now I sleep like a log and wake up early. Have plenty of great nightmares (I'd stopped dreaming as well, which I missed, as I love a good dream/nightmare - they only came back about 3 months after I was diagnosed and started to lose weight) and when I wear libre sensors my BG stays pretty flat all night, usually below 5, before rising a little when I get ready to go to work - usually up to the 5s low sixes - about two hours after I get up (And after breakfast.) I
 
I had a typical night last night. Went to sleep on 7.5 and after a level line on my sensor woke up on 7.5. That's because my basal insulin is spot on. It's easy for T1. Went up to 8 before brekkie.

Slept without any disturbance, woke up and started to watch the cricket on my iPad. It's a hard life being retired...
