Usually when first diagnosed you might expect a repeated test after 3 months to see if the measures you have taken, that being dietary changes and /or medication have had a positive effect. Depending on that result then another after 6 months would be reasonable to expect. If your management is showing good results then a yearly test is the normal to expect.
As would foot and eye screening and other blood tests to check kidney function, B12 etc.
You may have to be proactive in requesting this and the timeframe does seem to have gone a bit awry with Covid.
My trust has said only 25% of the 58,000 registered diabetics have had annual checks. Pretty poor really.
