I've recently had my 2nd DN appointment and booked in for another 3 months (March 2012). Are check-ups every 3 months or do they change after a certain period of time? Amanda x 🙂

I had my eye-test at local optician (which I understand is yearly unless specified); foot check by DN (although did have one 3 months ago by professional foot person) (again yearly unless specified). Flu jab and pneumoccol jab done plus kidney's checked.

What other appointments would I be due and how often. Amanda x 🙂

Amanda hi,
Theres an annual check up we have which is meant to be all full mot including feet, pulses, etc etc,as for DSN appointments they change dramatically well for me they have anyway, within the first 13 month or so I was seeing my DSN quite regular but ive not seen him now for a number of months, once he saw improvement in me with my weight he said he would see me every 6 months we are now on 8 month and not heard a peep, not that im particularly bothered as I dont miss him LOL.
Of course theres your hbA which im my experience starts off every 3 month for the newly diagnosed then goes to 6 month.

Thanks Steff; where would I be without you....I thought there must be something wrong with me if she wants to see me every 3 months; however, I think she is secretly hoping I'm going to put on the 3 stone I've lost in time for our 2nd visit in March....she can scoff..it ain't going to happen.... xx🙂

No not at all theres nothing wrong with you, in a way and im not slagging the jobs of DSN's off but they seem to take an interest at the start then drop off, thats only in my expereince though so dont all go bashing me.Im sure some of you have a fab DSN and would not be without them. One thing I cant knock my DSN for was all the help they gave me in convincing my GP to put me onto Victoza she he aint all bad.

Hi Steff; what medicine regime are you on - I thought you we're now Diet and Exercise. My DN is like the grim-reaper; never heard anything like it and she's Type 2 you'd think she'd be a bit more sympathetic...:(

You must now have good control that you've been able to get off meds - you must be really pleased with yourself. I'd like to keep off med's for as long as I can, its a real rollercoaster of positivity and fear...sometimes I get myself into a right tiss and then somedays I can defiant that life will cary on as normal..whatever normal is..🙂

If it's the nurse at your surgery then she is the practice nurse. A DSN has a lot of experience and qualifications. Practice nurse went for a 1/2 day lecture and got a certificate for it.

Practice nurse I avoid like the plague, DSN spoken to one a couple of times besides that see my endo once a year for other autoimune problems. Diabetes only if I request a visit. Saw him Friday he is still recovering in a darkend room :D

The nurse I see is a practice nurse but also runs the diabetic clinic and has diabetes type 2. Have only seen my GP when first diagnosed when she gave me a handout on Diabetes and a tissue to wipe the tears streaming down my face. All the information I've needed I've got from this site; other sites have scared the life out of me....😱

Ah, that explains my practice nurse then, I reckon she skipped part of her afternoon course.

I've gone to a six month gap now Amanda, but would have prefered anoth 3 month one.🙂

Round here after the first year, T2's only get seen yearly, and yearly A1c.
