I started taking insulin a few months ago abasaglar. I am taking 34 units before bed but it isn't enough. is this a lot I don't have a clue. is it safe to up the dose to 36. I don't take any other insulin

How long is a piece of string ? Depends on how far you run ?

Hello @alimac , welcome to the forum. A little more info will help us give you the best advise.
Are you on any other meds for diabetes.
What insulin are you on.
If you don’t mind telling us , what are your BG (blood glucose ) levels when you self test.
What dietary changes have you made.

To be perfectly honest your diabetes nurse / team should be helping you adjust your insulin units and any other diabetic meds you are on or may need to help you achieve good BG results. Are you finding them unhelpful ?

Hi Alimac, and welcome to the forum.

As Lin says it is difficult for us to advise you on meds, but there is a wealth of support and information available on here, so come back with questions, and have a good read of the posts on here.

If you have just started on insulin, there will no doubt be some adjustments to make to sort out appropriate doses, which will be different for different people. You need to get back to your diabetes nurse to ask for help with this. As for is this a lot of insulin, not if it is what you need to manage your levels. Are you self testing? This can help you to know what different foods and exercise will do to your levels, and give you information to help you to make changes that may be needed to your diet and/ or lifestyle.
