Wow. That is quite some figure!

For some reason I thought the cost was higher. Still very high though.
I wonder how much the NHS would save if correct education on managing diabetes was given rom day one of diagnoses.

Tis true, prevention is better than cure.

Personally, though, as someone who has worked with information and statistics, I tend to agree with the old adage: "There are lies, there are damned lies, and then there are statistics."

Indeed !

"....a recent online study in the journal Diabetic Medicine1 has estimated the annual cost of emergency calls for severe hypoglycaemia at ?13.6 million in England, with the average cost per emergency call at ?263.

.........The costs to the health system of severe hypoglycaemia episodes are a significant financial burden, and are higher for patients with Type 2 diabetes than Type 1 patients using insulin...... "

Significant ?

Total NHS budget for 2011/2012 Circa 106Billion.

Help me out here Doc_brown, is 13.6 million a bit over 0.01% of the budget ( the price of a Report or two ) ?

Perhaps funding for T2 self testing would help reduce the cost !

Dont forget, if you call an Ambulance for a Hypo there is a record kept and it will affect your next driving license renewal. Be aware!
