How long to wait for a new licence?

I was asked to do a Specsavers sight test in January. I don’t know why, I’ve not been asked before. Maybe it’s because I’m 60, or because I’ve had last year laser. Anyway, it’s nearly May and I’m still waiting. I have called twice but the advisers can’t tell me anything. I’m getting worried, should I be? I have good eyesight and only needed to do the peripheral test once. Many thanks for reading.

It just depends on how busy they are. If you have had only 1 eye lasered then there's no reason for the sight test. The SS should have told you the results of the test so if all ok, licence will appear in due course.
My last renewal took almost a year to come and that was after numerous complaints.
This year licence came back by return of post.
You can drive for a year whilst waiting for your licence to come back as long as you haven't been advised not to drive.

NB - Yes you can continue to drive etc BUT only in the UK - so if you have any holidays abroad planned where you might be driving - you can't - without being physically in possession of your valid licence.

Par for the course with the DVLA, I'm afraid. Our son's 5-year licence expired before he got his new one, weeks after he'd had his Specsavers field vision test, but he was able to continue driving under Section 88 of the Road Traffic Act while waiting as he met the conditions, primarily because he hadn't been told not to.

I’ve only once been asked to take the specsavers test by DVLA
I’m on insulin & been receiving treatment for Diabetic related eye conditions to one eye for about 10 years and previously (as is currently the case at the moment) have received treatment to both eyes
as I clicked that box on the online declaration just a few days ago (I did my renewal online last weekend)
I thought to myself this time I’m sure they will be asking me again to attend spec-savers for their field of vision test….we will see 😉
regarding how long it takes for everything to be processed by DVLA
I think it can be ages sometimes and it’s just pot luck, following my renewal 3 years ago, they actually wrote to me saying I no longer needed to do the 3 year medical, really ?… I thought to myself
but didn’t question it to much and duly paid the £17 they then asked for and a new photo, however on that and them accepting payment for a normal licence, they then realised they had made an error and sent me a 3 year medical restricted one plus a refund for £17

Thank you for your reply. Specsavers said they were not allowed to tell me my results under DVLA regulations but “hinted it was fine”. I know it’s OK for me to drive but it’s so stressful not knowing. As if T1D wasn’t stressful enough.

Thank you. I feel a bit helpless with all this as I can’t talk to anyone at DVLA that can give me some actual information on my case. I am going abroad in July and had hoped I could hire a car but I’m thinking that might not happen. Maybe I accidentally ticked the wrong box somewhere. I’m on insulin too, and have had laser on one eye. Who knows. Either way, it’s stressful enough living with this condition without extra stress.

Thank you so much for your reply. SS told me they weren’t allowed to disclose the results but told me in a cryptic way that I was OK! i am aware I can still drive but the not knowing is worrying me.

Thank you so much. It really does seems to be a matter of luck! Fingers crossed

Thank you all. Sorry I’m not that au fait with this forum, I think I have replied to you all. It is such a stressful situation. As if being T1D isn’t bad enough
