How is it possible...

Hi All,

On the 2nd Jan I put in my prescription with the pharmacy that supply me with all my medication. I was told it would be ready Sat 5th great stuff. I didn't manage to collect it saturday and was going to do it today. Yesterday I recieved an email from them asking me if I had gone and collected it myself and had it dispensed at the pharmacy below the GP surgery as that is what the receptionist at the gp's said I had done...?

I rang the pharmacy and confirmed that I hadn't. I then tried to ring the surgery which was closed. I rang the surgery this morning and they confirmed that I had collected it on the 3rd and had it dispensed that day.

I really don't understand how this could happen. How could both the
receptionist and pharmacy give out my script and then the actual supplies to someone who shouldn't have them? Also the person who collected the supplies should have realised by now that they haven't got the right medication surely...?

I'm going in to collect the script from the surgery and see if I can speak to the practic manager about it all.

That's pretty terrible Emma 😱 At my pharmacy they always ask you to confirm your address before handing the stuff over, even if they know who you are. Can't imagine how this could happen! There are also labels on everything with my name on, which they call out to the people waiting!

Hope you can get to the bottom of it and that it doesn't happen again - to you or anyone!

people invariable call me carolyn which drives me potty as I have a washing line at the end of my name, so I have to confirm they have called the right person and they aske me to confirm the adress and postcode.

Sometimes hubby picks up prescriptions and he always takes my bit of plastic with him just to prove who it is for.

That is another thing, I never go and pick the script up myself my pharmacy always do it for me which the surgery know as it's on my notes. I've never had anything dispensed by the pharmacy below the GP surgery for myself either. I'm really glad that I don't use that pharmacy if that's how they are.

The plot thickens! 😱 Perhaps there's someone with a similar surname that the 'below GP' pharmacy asked for the script for, then made it up and handed it over. As you said earlier though, what on earth does the person receiving it think they've got?

Off the subject a tad, But ill never forget at one of my old surgeries I had an appointment.

Sat in the waiting room and they called my name, I went to get up but another lad beat me too it and headed to the waiting room announced. I sat and pondered for a minute or two, and thought maybe I had misheard. I went and asked the receptionist (The guy hadbeen in there a good few minutes by then) and she said yes, It was my name, at my appointment time... and this guy had gone to my appointment!

Upon a little detective work from the receptionist..

Get this... He also had the same name as me, had an appointment 10 mins aftr mine, (Knowing the surgery they would have been running late so more ftting with his slot!) lived in the same area and now had took my appointment.

Imagine the worry on his theiving face as the doctor sat him down and started with, "So Ben, youre a diabetic!"....

Was a case of similar (the same infact!) names and a mix up, maybe the same sort of thing?
