how do you feel about duk now that they have allowed our beloved nursie to post this second letter????

i personaly feel very let down by them and have lost a heck of a lot of confidence and respect for them and the work they seem to be doing. also judging by what others have said on the facebook pages of duk it seems i am not in the minority over this either..

Seems like fair debate to me. I believe in freedom of speech, even when I disagree with what's being said.

I am really annoyed. Any other organisation would not print such a letter or if they did it would have editorial comment about how silly the person was to write it. They have completely ignored the large volumes of complaints from their members. To print one might be seen as OK but now they have printed a second one which to me seems to kind of endorse what the nurse is saying. Many people with valid points to make must write in to them, and Balance is only bi-monthly, so they must have left out other letters to print this insulting rubbish. I wish I had waited before renewing my membership.

I don't have an issue with the first letter being printed as it did open up a debate, and the responses opened up the idea of not being embarrassed about it to some people who previously were.
I do feel though that the second letter went beyond healthy debate/disagreement into what was actually quite an offensive attacking letter and I believe it was an error to print it without any sort of 'Diabetes UK says....' comment with it as consciously or not the lack of it does to many imply that the organisation feels it is acceptable for people to offend in that way.
I'm all for our 'angry nurse' to sprout what she likes as it's only herself she's making look ridiculous but I think DUK fell down by not offering their stance on the issue to support, and maybe even defend, its readers and there by implicity saying that they feel it is a valid viewpoint which is clearly not the view point of the majority of its readership.

i believe it isnt just the majority of the readers they have got up the noses of with this as i know a lot of other people on facebook who are not diabetic have read the letter and said it is a disgusting thing for an organisation, who are the ones ment to be fighting for our rights in these matters, to even publish the letters. i agree maybe the first one opened up a debate, but as has been stated by a few now, to publish the second letter is just pain foolish. i would think diabetes uk have been inundated with complaints over this and i wouldnt think they will have such a large membership group next year.

Hi all,

Personally I'm angry that the letter was printed in the first place....yes there is freedom of opinion...But the magazine is sent to Nathan age 14...who read the article before I did...and it opened a whole can of worms in our house...to the point that he felt dirty and disgusting if he injected or blood tested in public....it caused quiet a issue for a while...however we have overcome this...which Nathan nor I feel it should have been an issue in the first place...as prior to this publication had no problem in either testing or injecting...Nathan has now adopted my opinion if persons dont like it Look Away...and Keep there opinions to themselves...and get on with what they are doing....this is a 14 yr olds approach...mine is unprintable...😡

As for the Nurse she should be fired on the spot for her idiotic remarks....I have never heard anything so stupid in my life....Thanks to her letter and DUK....they upset a 14 year old who was/is still struggling to come to terms with his Diabetes....

I can't deny, though, that she has been the source of much poetic inspiration!

HAHAHA GOOD POINT NORTHERNER , WE LOVE YOU AND YOUR POEMS BUT HATE THAT OLD WITCH 😱 THEY NEED TO PUT YOU IN PRINT !!!!!! WE WOULD WANT TO READ THAT , IF ANY OF US EVER CONSIDER BUYING BALANCE AGAIN.... NOT MEEEEEEEEEE

i for one will never have a copy of balance ever again. not even if they gave it away for free.

now for northerners poems i WOULD pay a very good sum of money as they are all superbly written 🙂

Good on You Nathan! :D :D

I think the debate about injecting in public is a fair and useful one, but not where one of the protagonists is allowed to express their prejudices in such insulting and inflammatory language. One might, for example, have a debate about immigration, but if the views were expressed in a racist and aggressive manner, I think we should quite rightly be opposed to it.

This brings me back to the BNP 😛 People always say "everyone deserves freedom of speech". Well I say no they don't, not if they are racist or if they are a stupid ex-nurse who thinks diabetics are like illegal drug users.

But apparently they do 🙄

Throw eggs at them all I say 😉

egg her!!!! egg her!!!!! i would rather throw the whole bloody hen at her!!!!!! lol

Oh dear, I do hope you're not inciting an 'egging' of the nurse katie! ( at least it would be low carb!🙂)

ehem oops, i mean i would never condone that sort of behaviour towards the BNP or the nurse.

I'm sure the nurse appreciates being compared with the BNP, she probably voted for them in the European Elections.

i do believe that duk have been inundated with requests for memberships to be cancelled. i just hope this is the wake up call they need to issue the correct response now
