I had my letter through about my retinopathy screening this morning and the location of where i need to go has changed no warning no phone call beforehand or nothing. The place looks posher but its harder to get to. Ah well guess common curtiosy is lost on people these days.

Who knows what kickbacks have changed hands to get the contract for retinal screening. I always think if it looks posher, it's probably an American company. But then, I'm always suspicious of odd unannounced changes in NHS England.

There's a mobile unit that visits my surgery twice a year - unfortunately, I have to spend half the day crossing town to the hospital because of this pesky problem with one of my eyes :( They told me once that, because I had been found to have a problem I would always have to been seen at the hospital, so there's no chance of anything local again! 🙄 Still, not complaining (much😉), I'm lucky to get the attention I need! 🙂

Change is frustrating, but if they had to phone everyone, it would take ages. Do you have plenty of time to plan your journey/

I complained at one i went to a few years ago as it was poorly signed, and when i asked a local resident where it was they laughed then apologised, but it was happening all the time. The staff said when i went well fill a feedback form, to which i replied i already had when i was waiting. Although i have not been sent there, since not quite the worse surrondings, for a number they used the Health Authority offices, and one year had to wait in what looked the graveyard for filing cabinets. The last few years i have been to a Lloyd's Pharmacy that the screening service use and has a small waiting area and nicely set room with the equipment in.

I have noticed over the last few years they seem to be sending letters out earlier and reminders.

Yes thats for sure well after looking into how to get there it turns out I can get 1 bus and then its a 1 minute walk from bus stop.

Our mobile service has just changed hands. The HQ is on the ground floor of the 2 storey building where the hospital diabetes clinic, the one I go to, is situated. So I always used to have my screening actually at the D clinic and could often roll it up on the same afternoon as a D clinic visit.

Now I am not allowed to go there for screening as I don't actually live in Rugby - I have to go to the City of Coventry (where I don;t live either but my Drs surgery is just over the border in Cov) Health Centre to have it done.

Why do you always knock the NHS in England, from what I have read else where Scotland doesn't exactly smell of roses?

How embarrassing had a voicemail at tea time from eye place saying can you give us a call back about an eye appointment and a change of location

Having worked in the NHS for years before I retired at the end of March I know they don't have time to ring everyone about appointments unless it is a last minute change and they may not be able to get a letter to the patient in time. Unfortunately, some letters do get lost and there were many instances of patients phoning me asking about appointments. When I told them they had DNA'd they had often not received the original letter. They did in later years start texting people about their appointments to remind them.

I was a bit peeved to get a 'reminder' about my next eye appointment in June - it's nearly two months away, what's the point of sending a reminder two months in advance? What a waste! I wonder if they'll send me any more reminders? 🙄 They send me text messages nearer the time anyway.

It's simply because a lot of these changes represent the sneaky privatisation. Don't get me wrong, I love the NHS, I worked in it for years. It's because I'm annoyed by what the government is doing to it.

I agree, the NHS in Scotland is far from perfect, but at least it's not being privatised, with every service put to tender. I apologise if this sounds annoying, it certainly isn't meant to be. I used to be proud of the NHS in England, and I don't like seeing it pulled apart.

My mum had to have her mammogram in a mobile unit parked in a Tesco car park. It was January and freezing :(
