A CHARITY is warning that patients with diabetes at Basingstoke hospital could be at increased risk of foot amputations.

Diabetes UK is calling for the hospital, in Aldermaston Road , to introduce a specialist diabetes footcare team, which they believe could mean a quicker referral and, in turn, reduce the amputation rate.

Basingstoke has been flagged up as one of 84 hospitals in England and Wales without a multi-disciplinary footcare team (MDT) for people with diabetes, which is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.
