Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Yesterday I was taken in Poole Hospital with suspected arrhythmia fortunately it was a false alarm but I was kept in overnight to be sure. Towards the end of the evening I was presented with a breakfast menu for the morning .Everything on the menu was carbo based eg Cereals, Toast, Fruit Juice, Bread etc etc there was absolutely no low carbo offerings. When I pointed out that the menu was not diabetic friendly I was given a lecture by an auxiliary nurse in that it clearly stated on the menu that items marked were for diabetics, she then pointed to Orange juice and Croissants as a recommended meal suitable for diabetics. The lunch time menu was no better and the resultant cheese salad was a lump of grated cheese, some iceberg lettuce and half a tomato. No one in the hospital understood the relationship between carbos and BG levels they simply said take more insulin. I was amazed. I ordered two boiled eggs but in the morning I was told that they could not cook boiled eggs but I could have poached!!!! If you want to see the menu and the delivery breakfast the image can be view at www.rescomuk.com/hf. I should add the besides the food the medical care was excellent...

So typical sadly! 🙄

Ooo a lecture by an 'auxiliary nurse'. Presumably she has an NVQ (not very qualified!) 🙄

I'm glad your health care was good (apart from the unhealthy food options!)
and you didn't have to stay in long.

This is why I dread a hospital stay. Though if that does happen & the food is not suitable, I will have a right go at them. God, I would love it if Croissants were diabetic friendly.:D

When I was in hospital it was exactly the same, everything on the menu was supposedly diabetic friendly, 99% of it wasn't.

When I was in with high blood glucose levels I asked the nurse what I could eat from the menu and she said anything ... That didn't feel right so I tried to pick the healthy options but I now know from being on here that my choices were not that great as I ate porridge and bread for breakfast ... Too many carbs for a start x
