Just had a near neighbour call on me about his recent stay in Hospital..He couldn't understand why the Nurses were always pricking his fingers and offering him biscuits when they saw the results. It turns out that he was being treated as a diabetic. This lasted for four days until the Consultant asked him how long he had been a diabetic to which he replied that he never had. Consultant said, ":I didn't think so seeing your bottles of lucozade, bags of sweets and chocolate biscuits and your readings are never over 4.5.

The man in the next bed was the true diabetic and he had not had his blood sugars taken for four days!!😱

Oh dear! And it never dawned on them! 😱 Hope the true diabetic didn't suffer too much as a consequence.

I am filled with horror reading this. What an awful experience for both men. I do hope the man with the true diabetes is, at last, being properly looked after. It's just shocking and I hope someone has compained about it.🙄

Best wishes Sheena

Please encourage your neighbour to make a formal complaint. This is ridiculous and dangerous!

I am new to the forum but as a fellow Diabetic this is actually a horrifying mix up, it worries me! In many cases people would ask why they were having their bloody tested hourly, but I suppose there are people out there, for one reason or another, who wouldn't think to check what they were being tested for as they trust the professionals in the hospital and assume everything was relative to the reason they were staying there. What scares me the most however is the more vulnerable people out there, if the guy in the bed next to him was Type 1 rather than Type 2 and on insulin, it could of resulted in real danger if he was injected with the other patient's insulin.
