Ok i am new to this site and not to sure how to work it lol.
I am 16 and have been diabetic for three years, and i struggle alot with it! its such a comfort too see that im not the only one x
Over the past few years i've been in and out of hospital about 6 times with DKA (Diabetic ketoacidosis) which is horrible, but i dont seem to learn my lesson! When im in, im always in intensive care and i really hate what i put my family through, but since i moved to a new area i feel the diabetic clinic is much better and will hopefully help me stay out of hospital !

Hi Ya, welcome to the forum, I've only just been diagnosed, so have a lot of thing running through my head at the minute.

Everyone here is really friendly and supportive. Its good that you feel your diabetic clinic is better and should be able to assist you.

Im glad youre pleased with new diabetic clinic heres to staying out of hospital , good luck Katie 🙂

Hi Katie, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about the DKA - I had that at diagnosis and it's the worst I've ever felt in my life :( I think it helps a great deal to get good support, so hopefully your new team will be able to set you on the right track. What insulin regime are you on? Have you ever done a carb counting course, like DAFNE for example? Learning how to dose insulin accurately according the the carbs in your food is the best way to maintain good control. The more you know about diabetes and the effects of things like different foods and activities on your blood sugar, the less of a problem it becomes, and more of an inconvenience.

It would be worth seeing if they have a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas in your local library - it covers all aspects of living with Type 1 and is very readable and useful.

You'll get lots of friendly support here from people who understand, so don't be shy if you have any questions or concerns - no question is considered 'silly' here! 🙂

Welcome Katie
Lots of people on here remember teenage years with diabetes and will be keen to help you. A good supportive clinic really helps at any age. I had a relatively easy teenage, and didn't get diagnosed until 30.

Welcome to the forum katie 🙂 hopefully your new clinic will support you more than your old one xxx

Hi Katie and welcome to the forums. You've done the right thing joining here. I hope that between the new clinic and the support you'll get here you can put those hospital stays behind you and move on to a happier healthier future. Take care. XXXXX

Welcome to the forum Katie 🙂 Sorry to hear about the DKA. Lets hope that your new team do keep you out of hospital, hospitals are not fun places to be to say the least 😱 I find them scary personally. I was diagnosed when I was 16, it was a struggle at first but I'm getting there now. Just out of interest, what type of insulin are you on? I'm on Levemir and Apidra

Welcome to the forum, Katie. I'm 21 and have had type 1 for 18 years.

Feel free to rant away and ask questions!
