Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I'm 28 and was diagnoised with type 1 diabeties in September 2010.

I am going treking in Moroco in a few weeks, going to about 4300metres above sea level, and i just wondered if anyone new if there whas anything i should be aware of. I've done a bit of research and I've read a few bits about problems with blood meters etc.

I'd really appreciate it if anone can give any advice from their experiences.

Cheers,

bob

Hi Bob, welcome to the forum 🙂 I don't have any personal experience, but from what I have read I think the rule is to keep your meter warm and your insulin cool (but not frozen! 😱). Frio bags are well recommended for keeping your insulin at a good temperature, and keeping your meter in a pocket should stop it from getting too cold to function properly.

I'm sure others will be along with more salient advice! 🙂

Think you can do the opposite with a Frio as well ie keep stuff above freezing - think I read that on the Frio website years ago, somebody had been to Antarctica or somewhere?

I know someone who had trouble with an Accu-Chek Nano getting too cold, he left in his van in the case inside his plastic lunchbox inside his work bag whilst working (is a plumber) (he'd kill me for saying that - gas engineer, ceiling fixer, builder and plumber extraordinaire LOL)

Welcome to the forums bobscott 🙂

and a warm welcome from me too ..have a lovely trek ...my sister did it in the atlas mountains many years ago and loved it x🙂
