Hi everyone!

I’m a newly diagnosed type 1 and I started insulin injections 4 weeks ago. The first three weeks went well, I started on low doses and then did some calculations to work out my carb count ratio was roughly 1 unit per 12.5g and it was working really well.

About a week ago I started to go low a lot so I started to lower my rapid dose. This didn’t help so I lowered my basal dose. I was still going low (below 4) multiple times a day. So I stopped insulin altogether and I’m still going low! 2.9 earlier today with no insulin! Is this normal?

I can imagine my pancreas has had a rest and has been able to recover a bit but was I right to stop the insulin? I’ve rang my diabetic team multiple times and all I got was one unhelpful answerphone message.

Thanks

As long as you are still testing your blood glucose lots of times a day and don't go above say 8, I'd say yes - but I'd far rather your team were telling you that not me. I'd be happier if you told your GP and asked him why you can't get any advice from the hospital - it's no good whatever them sending patients to that hospital if they can't provide advice !!

Hi @Becky22 It does sound like your pancreas recovered temporarily. It’s possibly pushing out too much insulin too late and that’s causing you to dip a bit low. Can you leave a voice message for your team?

Glad you managed to get hold of your team in the end @Becky22

Hope your pancreas settles down soon and starts to behave itself!
