Hi,
i am looking to make some ginger wine & wasn't sure about the sugar. To make this from a kit requires 1.3kg of sugar. to make 7lts at 20% alcohol. Now i realize this is a lot of sugar, but sugar turns to alcohol & i am wondering what sugar content is left after the fermentation ? Any ideas. Is there such a thing as a sugar meter/tester strips.

You can add the sugar in smaller amounts to ensure full fermentation - you measure the sugar content with one of those floats - a hydrometer - they go down as the sugar is used up.
I make ginger beer and use only enough sugar to make it fizzy, not overly alcoholic.

no idea really, but as a guide;

Stone's green ginger wine - 150 calories, 0g of fat, and 20.3g of carbs per 3.4 fl oz.

So I reckon may get away with 1 fl oz 😛

One thing i do allow myself is a treat every 4 weeks of a bad meal of my choice, like chinese or indian & not worry whats on the plate. If its chinees i do like a ginger wine with the meal as its really complimentary. But maybe i will go back to "no added sugar" ginger beer as this is also low in everything.
