Nephrologist Geoffrey Block sees himself as a "big believer" in home hemodialysis, which he recommends to select patients at DaVita Lowry Dialysis Center in Denver.

"We achieve euvolemia, normotension, and excellent biochemical control," said Block, who spends half his time in clinic and half in research at Denver Nephrology, in an interview with MedPage Today. "Our patients feel vital and active, and engaged in their care."

Granted, Block is a part-time consultant for a home hemodialysis company that doesn't yet have a device on the market, but experts say that recent incentives and technological improvements are driving nephrologists to get more patients dialyzing at home.
