Hello everyone. I thought you'd like to hear about our holiday success ... I was worried about it beforehand, with a fairly new diabetic in tow (William, age 14, diagnosed in March). We booked it ages ago, and went to a v.remote part of the Dolomites in Northern Italy for a walking holiday. I wished we were off to the Cotswolds but we stuck to the original plan and it was great. William turned down his Lantus 25%, and took a little less Novorapid with meals. We had loads of snacks to hand and he ate 10/15g every hour while walking. Mostly his sugars were fine, with the odd spike but that happens anyway. No really nasty hypos. He got a blister that worried me as he also has lymphoedema in his legs, but so far it seems to have healed well. I had a list of helpful diabetic phrases in Italian, but luckily we didn't need to use it. Also had all the numbers and addresses of nearest doctor, hospital etc. Frio wallets worked well for us and there were no problems at the airport. In the end it was me that needed medical help after falling on my head on day 1 - spent the entire holiday with a huge black eye! :D
So glad we saw it through - everyone much more confident now.

Yay! Success! Well done.

That's brilliant! Apart from the black eye of course! So pleased to hear that all went well for him, a terrific learning experience and confidence booster 🙂 I am sure your post will give hope to many other parents faced with similar anxieties, thank you for the update! Where are you going next year? 🙂

Thats great news, we haven't had a holiday this year but last year went on a lazy all inclusive beach holiday so had to do the opposite and ramp up all his injections to cover his mahoosive food intake! lol
