Hi Iam the father of a 19year old type1 diabetic she is going on a weekend break with 7 teenage pals, should she take her Glucagon injection for emergency hypos ,I dont think she should as her friends would not know when to use this in the correct circumstance, and dont want to place this burden on them

Hi David and a warm welcome to the forum, when is your daughter going on the weekend break? could she not show one of the group maybe the one she is closest to how she would need to adminsitrate the glucagon if it was needed? x

Im sure if there good enough pals they wont see it as a burden to help one of there mates in distress

Welcome David.

There's no point your daughter taking Glucagon kit unless someone is able and willing to administer it, should the need arise. Probably better to concentrate on preventing very low hypoglycaemia with testing before bed, especially after drinking alcohol, and ensuring sugary snacks are always to hand - literally in pocket or bag when up or beside bed when there.

hi thanks for reply, her best pal is a vet nurse trainee same age 19, dont want to put this responsibility on her would rather she just phoned 999 if in doubt, this is an issue between wife, daughter and myself - i am pig in the middle!!!!!

How about getting your daughter and her friends together and talkingto all of them. You'd be surprised at the ammount the already know. I appreciate at the end of the day it is better to do what everyone feels most at ease with but I think they may like to be given the chance first.

I think to be safe she should take it and let them all know how to use it, its not that big a deal for the majority of people, probably much easier as it wont be going in any of her friends........:D

It is only for emergencies when all other methods of hypo resolve are exhausted/unavailable...........🙂
