I have decided to have a two week break from the pump. Going to Greece next year to get married and there is no way on this earth i want to walk round with my budgie smugglers ona and a pipe stuck to me. So ithought best try and manage my D here first.

holiday

hope you have a great time and things go well for you in greece get loads of photos 😱)

Where is your holiday, megga? Going away somewhere or having a chance from pump to pens while staying at home? Hope it all goes well, anyway.

Thanks for the replys and support, at the moment its not going as great as i would like, but i should think that it will take time for the Glargine to work. Give it a couple of days and if not good, i may have to up it a notch.
But i must admit, it feels brill without that pump stuck to me, but i know there's going to be a lot more work involved as i went on it for morning highs.

Sorry if it is boring to some but i hope some one else who is on the pump and needs a break may find it helpfull, and it helps me🙂

Always useful to know there are alternatives and that pump is not for ever, unless you want it to be.

Well after a few days of setling down my levels are the same as what i have on the pump, so i am going to extend my holiday for some time, if my HBA1C stays the same, i'm getting a divorce from it.
I have never liked having the thing and it took the D nurse's a couple of years to persuade me to have it in the first place. It may be a god send for some, but for me its a pain in the bum, rolling over in bed and it tugs, having to carry it when i got up in the night, and it always picked the night time to let me know its blocked, or the battries are low blaa blaa.
And the worst thing its a constant reminder that i have diabetes, 24 hours a day 7 days a week 52 weeks a year.

Glad things are going well
I found control is slightly better off the pump ( maybe partly as also using a different meter which does not read too low)
Are you on split lantus or once daily
My D nurse has noted a few people do well coming off pump and going back onto MDI- she suggested it's due to giving injection sites a rest- I think is generally more confidence re fine tuning especially basal

On single dose of Glargine (11 units) taken at 10 am very night, and Nova ripid for the quick stuff. Not spoken to my D nurse yet, going to see how things pan out with my HBA1C first, but i am so much happier with out it.
Strange thing is I was put on it to control my morning highs, but i have not had any since comming of the pump.

I do think that having a pump and using less insulin, is beneficial, meself.

I think (and this is just me intuition rather than based on research, LOL) it probably therefore makes us more sensitive to insulin generally, whereas hitting it with a blunt stick (ie MDI) for years, DE-sensitises us .

What Does The Team Think? 🙂

Well i can only put my canulars in my tummy, tried other places and i found them just to painfull, so one of my problems is the sites, 6 years and only my tummy has left som scars. The nova rapid i am having now is the same ratio (10 grams to 1 unit) and the glargine i have is 11units, the pump basel worked out at 11.4 units for a 24 hour period, so for me its just about the same, but i know for some the take less when on the pump. We is all so differant.

Glad to hear things are going well now 🙂 Are you OK injecting in other sites? Should give your tummy a rest!
