I was diagnosed Type 2 in December and have been lucky so far, apart from a few bouts of funny business. Always like the thought process of strength in numbers, so hope to find some kindred spirits 🙂

Welcome to the forums lesgunn 🙂

I guess your funny business is referring to metformin? 🙄

Hi Mark,

Metformin was not great, Glucophage is better for me now, but it was uncomfortable to start without doubt. Don't get me started on the wind 😉

Now my diet is more controlled, i've lost 42lbs too, but my body has suffered a bit from the weight loss, feels like I have something musculoskeletal going on, lots of aches and pains where I didn't have previously and now my ribs are giving me jip too...ho hum!

Hi Les, welcome to the forum 🙂 It sounds as though you are doing very well, given that you were only diagnosed a few months ago - well done on the weight loss! Are you on any other medication apart from the Glucophage? If you are on a statin then some people find that they experience the muscle pain you speak of, and changing to a different variety can help with this.

You'll find lots of friendly and helpful people here, so please feel free to ask any questions you may have - nothing is considered 'silly'!

Hi Lesgunn, welcome to the forum, can sympathise with the pains, have them too and blame the statin I was recently put on. Will sit it out for a while to see if its just a start up side effect.

Sure you will like it here, lots of help and support.

Thanks everyone, nice to know i'm not alone.

Northerner, the muscle pains have been the worst - I can cope with the wind and all that comes with it and i'm not on statin, but the aches/pain have been almost daily.

For me, going from 22 to 19 stone within 3 months I think has taken it''s toll and my body simply hasn't caught up. I was having real trouble lying on my right side and asked for an ultrasound to see if everything was ok (which it was), but i'm still getting the pain around the bottom of my rib cage (even on the left side but not as bad as the right) and the soft tissue just below it can be painful to touch sometimes.

I've also had this latest bout of flu/stomach virus that's been doing the rounds, so that has knocked me for six. I've got a tickly cough, my throat feels like there's a pebble stuck in it, my chest is tight under my breast bone and up until a few days ago, I was feeling lousy. The Doc mentioned that you can have this strain up to 3 months, it's a nasty one and i've got so many friends who have had it too.

My back has been troubling me, so I went to see an Osteopath (basically I was worried it wasn't a back issue and something more sinister was going on - can't believe how much of a bloody hypochondriac i've become, I was at the Docs so infrequently 'til recently!!). He pinpointed two problems at the top of my shoulder and around my pelvis, so i'm working on that, the obvious thing he mentioned was excercise, which I want to do, but i'm wary of how crap i've been feeling. Anyway, bottom line is i'm doing more walking and eventually would like to get a bicycle as that's good for me he says.

One thing that has taken me a bit by surprise is how you can get these random pains all over your body - anyone else experience these?

Les, you've made some pretty big changes in order to achieve what you have and I imagine that it is taking your body a bit of time to adjust. I was at the opposite end of the spectrum to when diagnosed - my weight had dropped from 11st to 8st. The last 17 pounds came off in 3 days and looking back I expect this affected not only what little fat I had lost, but also muscle tissue at the same time. I also then experienced about 6 months of gradual recovery, with lots of muscle and joint soreness in the early days.

I don't think you are being a hypochondriac at all. Getting diagnosed with diabetes is a big thing, and now you are experiencing these troubling symptoms, so naturally you want to make sure that there are no other bombshells lurking around. It's good to hear that the tests havenot revealed anything untoward, other than your obvious pain and discomfort - I hope that things improve for you soon 🙂
