Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi everyone.

Im a 29yr old housewife/full time mum, Ive just recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and am now on 4x 500mg Metformin a day.

Im so confussed by it all, I dont know what I can eat, what I cant, if there is anything I should avoid :/

Ive read so much on the internet that its not really making sence anymore.

So after googling.. this forum came up at the top, so Ive bitten the bullet and joined up.

Noodle 🙂

Hi and welcome,

I hope all that Metformin isn't being too nasty to you!

It's worth having a look at the Useful Links for newbies page. The Gretchen Becker book is very good.

Ask lots of questions here, it's all very friendly.

Hello Noodle and welcome to the forum

When you are first diagnosed it can be really confusing and you can feel that your life has been turned on its head. Don't worry that's normal and in time you'll feel more yourself.

There are lots of people here who will be willing to share their experiences with you.

Have a good look around and ask as many questions as you like.

Welcome to the forum Noodle.

There is a lot to take in at first. I think that I was pretty lucky when diagnosed because I was given a blood glucose meter and told to test once a day at different times to build up an idea of how different carbs affected me.

Also, I attended a course called Diabetes X-Pert (run by the NHS) very soon after and this was instrumental in helping me understand what I could do for myself to get the condition under control. Other courses are also available (DESMOND being one). Check with your GP or Diabetes Specialist Nurse to see if one is available in your area (if you think it is likely to be of help).

Then, of course, there is us lot! Plenty of experience here to help guide you (but as with many things some experiences may be more relevant than others .... we are all different)

Andy 🙂

Hi and welcome to the forum, I've only just been diagnosed, though I have my 1st diabetic nurse appointment (today) so will hopefully be finding out what I need to do and what I'm on

Hi Noodle, love the name, and welcome to the forum, as others have said, its a very friendly place so just ask anything you like.

PS are you called noodle cos you especially like them? I'd suggest wholewheat noodles might be better for you, but if you havent been given a test meter and test strips by your GP, I'd suggest you get yourself one ASAP, its an invaluable tool in working out what's ok for you to eat.

Hi Noodle🙂
I am a newbie too and are on the Metformin. I am just about tolerating them now but i am still on one in the morning and one in the evening.
Ask your GB/Nurse for a BG Monitor as it is a great help🙂. This is a great forum and i am so glad that i have joined.
Val x
