Hi Kerry, welcome to the forum🙂 We have several members here of your age and I'm sure you'll find a lot in common! An HbA1c of 11 is high - what sort of insulin regime are you on? Let's see if we can help to get those numbers down!

Hi Kerry and welcome!:D

My son is 11 on a pump and his hba1c has come down from 9.6 to 8 in three months. What sort of regimen are you on? Do you carb count etc? Sorry for the questions - its just that it gives us a better picture of what your dealing with and then if we can help you i am sure we will.🙂Bev

Hi Kerry and welcome, you've come to the right place to talk to other diabetics. I think most of us have gone through times of struggling to gain good control so there is so much to learn from each other.

Have you been able to do a course like dafne or similar? I, and many on here would highly reccommend it as a good starting point for turning things around. Where in the country are you based? It may be someone else on here is local to you so could suggest what's available there...?

Hi Kerry welcome to the forum.
I am type 1 and have been for 14 years. I think I was very lucky as I was diagnosed at 21 and one of my friends was diabetic so I have always had a diabetic friend. You will get lots of help and advice on here, it is a great place to just share how you are feeling about things too.
Have you spoken to your DSN or GP about how you are feeling? Do you get much support/advice from you clinic?

Hi Kerry, this is a great site for you to chat away about your diabetes.

Im lauren & im 19 and have been diabetic for 5 years today actually! lol

my last hbac1 was 8.8 and i also struggle aswell. it has only been over 10% once though so at least thats something.

if u wanna know anything just ask away 🙂

Hey Kerry 😱)

I struggled loads with my BS till about 5 years ago, when I got my pump. Tried all sorts, but my HbA1c was always high - between 9-11% normally, so I know where you're coming from (I sometimes had hypos when BS was about 10!).

How much support do you get from your diabetes team? Consultant, DSN, dietician etc? Do they have a DAFNE course or similar you could go on? If you don't get much support from them, see if you can change to see another team, that's what I ended up doing and it really worked.

Good luck hun!

Hi thanx for your message im based in South west in Bath. Today was first day i really really tried with my BS and i found it exhausting and made me feel weak, i did generally have my bloods at a good level today. it was shocking how different i felt when it should have been the norm. but am gonna keep trying with it with the terrific support of my boyfriend. my very poor control and Hb1ac is due to issues i have from a previous eating disorder but the consquences of my past and present behaviour really scare me. I would be v ery interested in doing a DAFNE course any links or more info u have on them would be most welcome xxxx

Kerry, fantastic that you have such great support from your boyfriend! The past is the past - you've moved on from that and you have a determination to make the best of things from now on - brilliant! It can be hard work, but it is well worth it. If you've had high sugars for a long time, as your HbA1c suggests, it will have had a big effect on how you have been feeling, and your body will be feeling the major adjustments you are now trying to make - but it will quickly become much easier and you will feel so much better once your levels have got used to more normal ranges. You can do it!

I had an eating disorder prior to becoming diabetic, which I managed to keep under control for a couple of years, but then flaired up again. I am ok now, but I think it is a bit like alcoholism, it is always in the background, which when mixed with all the eating difficulties of diabetes can make life particularly crap. Please PM me if you ever want to talk about this.

Rachel
