Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi and Happy New Year to all 🙂

I was diagnosed with type 1 after being rushed into hospital after collasping at the start of december, turned out I had DKA. They think my diabetes was "set-off", if thats the right word, by either the miscarriage I had at the start of October or an infection of the womb as a result of the miscarriage.

I'm currently on Novorapid 14u 3x a day Lantus 18 u at night.

Hi, welcome to the site. I'm also newly diagnosed but have learnt such a lot from the panel of experts here - i.e the ones living with Diabetes not the ones theorising about it.

I'm sorry to hear of your miscarriage and the resulting infection etc. Hope you are feeling somewhat better in yourself and up to the challenge now set you by diabetes. After my first child was born (back in 1975) I had three early miscarriages and we were then told to go and get pregnant again as the best way to "get over it" - perhaps people are a damn sight more understanding now ?

Anyway I wish you all the very best for the New Year. Use this site to bounce anything off us all - it's a very good way of getting rid of stress or just finding out from those in the same position (doesn't matter whether we're type 1 or type 2).

Kind regards,

Hi everyone,

I don't have diabetes myself, however my son Alex was diagnosed just over a year ago. He is 10 in a few days and I feel like Diabetes has taken over my life! He had a bad episode on Boxing Day and ended up in A & E. Not quite what I had planned, I was supposed to be cooking for all my family! Nevermind, the beef sandwiches were lovely.

They think Alex's diabetes was caused by a throat infection he had sometime before, it's beyond me why, just a huge shock. I love these sites - it's good to talk!
