I'm thinking back to all the small illnesses I've suffered from the last few years and how they all seem to have cleared up now I've got BG more or less controlled. There's a long list, from repeated lingering coughs and chest infections to ear blockages and similar. They've all gone away. The last one, and the one that made all the difference was two consecutive paronychia on different fingers. The GP just treated all these conditions as a primary condition, the question of an underlying cause didn't seem to come up. In the end it was me that connected my inability to fight infections at extreme ends of my limbs with a possible BG problem. I asked for the test that led to diagnosis. Maybe it's a question of resource and affordability, but screening HBA1C in all of these cases would seem like a good idea to me.
