first i would like to say hi too all here, as im sure you can see im new too this site, i am a carer for my 16 year old, who is type 1 diabetic.
i need help or advice if possible, she has been on mova mix 30 for 4 years since she was diagnosed with it,
she is concious of her weight , and has been trying to loose weight, so we both joined slimming world after reading it was fine for diabetics, but this is where we are having problems, her bloods are rising, hence more insulin which neither of us are happy with.
has anyone here tried slimming world? and been happy with it?
i will add the lady doing the class did say slimming world has helped a few diabetics in her other group but they were type 2.
hope someone can help with advice.
again id like to say hi
:D

A warm welcome to the forum jennifer.

We've definitely got a few people around here who should be able to help.

I'm sure they'll be along shortly.

Andy 🙂

Hi Jenny, welcome! I'm 22 and have had type 1 for 20 years this year.

Have you and your daughter considered going onto a bolus/basal regime? It does involve more injections, but overall offers greater control of type 1. People on this regime (often called MDI - multiple daily injections) take 1 or 2 injections of basal/background insulin, often Lantus or Levemir, and then injections of fast acting insulin such as Novorapid when eating, working out the carbohydrates in their food and taking the appropriate amount of fast acting insulin.

It's pretty unusual for children these days to still be on 2 x injections a day! If it's working then that's great, but it sounds like you might want to chat to your DSN or consultant to see what else is out there for your daughter.

Another fab resource for parents is the Children With Diabetes emailing lists - info can be found here:

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum.

hi Jennifer.... welcome to the forum. I'm type 2 but I am sure that the type 1s will answer your query 🙂

I echo shiv's comments - surprised that your daughter is on mix insulin
Personally, the move to MDI was a huge step in getting better control.

I can't comment on the weight loss thing, as I have a figure to die for, regardless of what I eat. It's one of the hazards of being perfect .... :D

Welcome to the forum jennifer! 🙂

I'd recommend your daughter joining the forum too, so she can ask questions or just look through the threads. We also have the weight loss group which could be of use to her

xx
