hi im Tiegan, im 15 years old and have type 1 diabetes.
i was diagnosed with diabetes in 2007 at the age of 9 and didnt really understand what it was at first, but then my mum explained it as 'not being aloud to eat chocolate' it was awful i remember crying and being in hospital for 2 week. it all started on my way back from Cyprus and i kept needing to go to the toilet every 10 mins, when i got home my mum took me to the doctors and i had a bloods sugar level or 36.8 i was rushed to hospital. they told me if i had left it any longer i would've been in a colma. I am now 15 and at the age of 12 i got a insulin pump that didnt work out for me due to stress and not taking my insulin when need, i am not on a insulin pen and it is working out better, i should hopefully be going back on my insuln pump next year and i am hoping to find someone on here who i can chat to my age and compare experiences🙂
 
Hi Tiegan,

I'm afraid we don't have many under-eighteens on board and those there are don't post much. It's mostly their parents who use the forum. Doesn't mean you aren't very welcome and we do have lots of folk who were very young when diagnosed and have a wealth of experience to share.
 
Hi Tiegan, welcome to the forum 🙂 I hope that you have a much better experience when you go back on your pump. I find it's much better to try and give a bit of time to my diabetes each day rather than missing tests and injections and then worrying what damage I might be doing to my health - much better to just do it and then get on with my life! 🙂

Please feel free to join in where you want, and ask any questions you may have. We have a lot of members here who, although they might be a bit older than you, will know what it feels like to go through this, so hopefully will be able to help you out if you have any problems. There's also an organisation called Children with Diabetes that you might find useful to join.

Hi Tiegan, where you on holiday in cyprus when you took ill ? I love cyprus & have been olive picking & holiday. Its a good place (this site). Have a look at the pump section to see if you can pick up some info etc. I bet you can teach us aswell 🙂

Must say that's a rotten end to a holiday coming home with diabetes and not a stick of rock 😛
I hope you have now found out you can eat chocolate :D
